Vinea Imports Tasting with Espera Winery, Alcobaca, Portugal Eric Stone

We welcome Eric Stone of Vinea Imports to present the wines from Espera Winery from Alcobaça, Portugal. He will be pouring a selection of the importer's Spanish portfolio. 

Espera is a tiny winery operated by husband/wife duo Rodrigo Martins and Ana Leal.  Rodrigo is an agronomic engineer and master in viticulture and oenology.  For years he has worked as a consultant to wineries throughout Portugal, before starting Espera in 2014.  The duo believe in a different cycle for their wines - one in which each bottling has its own speed and way of being, that each vintage brings something new to explore, and that each vineyard and each grape have their very own peculiar personalities.

Martins describes his approach to winemaking: "In the vineyards we use no herbicides, no synthetic pesticides, hand work most of vineyards activities and use no irrigation. In the winery we use only natural fermentations, no temperature control on our fermentation vessels, no fining, no filtration, low levels of sulfur".
