Dero d’Avola 2016
Sicily, Italy, $12.99

Chiaramonte Nero D'Avola is the personification of Sicily's most important native grape variety - from the intense purple color to its unmistakable character. Made from 100% Nero D'Avola, the nose is a rush of black fruits and spices - the palate is extraordinarily round and complete, with an absolutely natural and effortless balance of tannin and acidity, structure and length.
The property of Firriato is a mosaic of incredible terroir, consisting of 940 acres of limestone, clay, sandy, and calcarenitic soils, traveling into the volcanic soils of Mount Etna, planted with vineyards which bask in the Meditterannean sun. In Firriato’s wines you can find every terroir that Sicily has to offer, from the seaside of the Egadi Islands to Volcano Etna by way of Trapani’s Estates. Firriato mixes tradition and innovation by using both indigenous varietals, such as Nero d'Avola, Perricone, and Zibibbo, and international varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, that throughout the years have defined Sicily as an excellent wine region.
If you haven't explored the wines of Sicily this a great starting point.
The perfect choice with spring lamb.
