La Chanterelle

Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Columbia Valley, Washington

Local favorites Donatas and Lotte Freeman over on "G" Street continue to impress us with this latest new release.  The timing couldn't be more perfect for this full-blown ripe style Cabernet Sauvignon.  It's sure to make good table talk that an amazing wine like this can come from a basement project not 5 minutes away from our front door and often delivered by Donatas on bike.  Urban power to the people!

It's not too early to be thinking about holiday gatherings or that hand chosen gift bottle. We are already shipping boxes out of state for people that still want to contribute to the family meal though they won't be pulling a chair up to the table this year. This Cab has all the elements to handle the task. Being a basement project, the quantity is TINY.  A grand total of only two barrels, 48 cases, were produced.

This Cabernet is all sourced from Riverbend Vineyard on the Whaluke Slope. Such a warm vineyard presents a wine that is big and bold. Out of the gate you get a mix of cassis, blackberries, red plums and a touch of mint wrapped in a vale of toasty vanilla oak.  It pushes the boundaries with the oak but the immense fruit carries it well. It has the presence of a Lincoln Continental-big, bold, and extravagant. The palate weight is full-bodied and the tannins have a presence without being too aggressive to enjoy now.  We really love a wine that is perfect to enjoy today or to lay down for 5 years--the best of both worlds.
